After spending almost 20 days with our spiritual Master in India it feels so apt to address each other this way. Chris and I had a wonderful trip this time. We were attending a North American Seminar that was organized by the “Natural Path” meditation group that we are core members off. Staying in an Ashram with a minimum– I mean bare minimum facilities brought us very close to Nature and reminded us how life itself can be very simple. This simplicity, in turn, helped tremendously to focus more on the Meditation and the Inner Self.
Waking up at 5AM, taking a shower in the cold(ish) water, then sitting in the meditation hall was, in itself, an absolutely phenomenal experience. A simple breakfast at 7:30AM and Lunch at 12:30PM and Chai at 4 P.M. Again, 5PM in the evening sit for the evening Meditation, 7:30PM dinner and 9PM universal prayer, and by 9:30PM you are in the bed.
The stay itself is a dormitory setup. The bed is, say 1 inch thick bedding with a single sheet and a small pillow and yes- a mosquito net! (You would be a nice dinner for those guys if you didn’t have one).
The simplicity of that life puts you so much closer to Nature, so much time to simply sit, contemplate and introspect, connecting deeper to our inner self. It is quite an experience.
I agree all of us may not be ready for a 2 week stay almost half way around the globe, but a weekend retreat in the back yard in NJ would definitely be doable.
We will keep you all posted of the arrangements pretty soon …..
