Everything starts from inside us and then comes out; that’s how we experience the world. We experience the world through our mind. Everything begins with the mind and within the mind.
When we are depressed, even good news doesn’t relieve it, even a nice dinner with our family doesn’t necessarily relieve it. This is because our mind is out of balance with thoughts of depression; this unbalanced state manifests in our outside world. When we are happy, even a little bad news doesn’t affect us. When we go to a party with a person we really like, we think that the party is great even though it may not be.
From these unbalanced mental states we are sometimes ignoring our children, sometimes being rude to people, sometimes hurting people we supposedly love, sometimes giving advice, sometimes sabotaging ourselves, etc.
If we regulate our minds, we can balance our inner and outer lives and be immensely more effective, achieving better results.
And regulating the mind is quite simple, yet its wonderful effects trickle down into every aspect of our lives.
It’s like in chaos theory, where if you change one tiny thing at the beginning of an experiment, the final outcome is drastically changed. When we change our thinking even a little bit, everything in our life is affected.
Now this regulation of the mind is done by working with your own mind to train your own mind, with the help of someone who has already regulated his or her mind.
All the thinking habits you have right now are the result of using your mind in a particular way. The vast majority of people don’t know how they’re using their mind. They just let it run wild, and their world gets built around this unconscious habit of letting their mind run wild.
Trying to solve our problems by 1. letting our mind continue to run wild and retain it’s habits, and then 2. talking with and taking advice from other people whose minds are running wild, doesn’t work so well.
Therefore, the most fundamental and effective method for regulating our minds, and thereby improving ourselves inside and out, is meditation.
Simple, yet effective. When we start meditation, we start to notice the trends of our mind, we observe how busy our minds are, and we divert our attention to a chosen “thought” and practice ignoring the rest of our thoughts.
Thus, we are training our minds to be utilized by US in any way WE choose.
Now, if “I” am observing my mind, then who, or what, am “I?” A soul! The spiritual existence that is the base of this physical human body. With this knowledge, if we now look back at who we used to be, a mind running wild within a narrow set of mental habits focused on worldly desires, we have to admit that we were living within a very small part of our life’s potential.
So how do we find out what’s beyond our narrow view of human life? It must start with regulating our mind, otherwise we’ll remain trapped within our own minds, and the mind is only one part of the human being.
So meditation can not only improve our lives, but it can elevate us to become complete, well-rounded, balanced human beings, moving towards higher levels of existence, discovering more and more about our Selves.
Please be aware, most modern practices of meditation are strictly for relaxation, and many other forms of meditation actually work towards clouding the mind with a different set of mental habits.

May we all grow to experience ourselves as divine human beings.
