It is funny how I feel about our recent Alaska trip – …a pilgrimage. YES! It was like a pilgrimage to my Soul.
The Simple, Pure and Magnanimous – Rivers, Snow Covered Mountains, Water Falls, Wide Plains and Deep Valleys brought a sense of humility and a deep sense of Peace.
The plants and animals surviving in that harsh weather and living in tune with Nature made me feel very insignificant. Not in the sense of worthlessness, but in the scope of living among countless important life forms on our majestic planet Earth. The way those plants and animals were living so freely created deep feelings which Soared in My Heart.
The facts we learned about the Indigenous Natives of Alaska brought a sense of reverence and adoration; how wise and courageous these people are to live only with what’s available in Nature. I couldn’t see myself surviving even a few hours in those harsh conditions. It dawned on me that I have become a weak human being who would have NO CLUE how to survive without my home filled with modern comforts.
The second aspect that really bothered me was the fact that I belong to this Human Race which mindlessly pollutes Nature. It really did bother me a lot, and a strong resolution was brewing in me. How can I SIMPLIFY and STOP being a junk maker? Even if I can’t make the environment better, let me at least try not to make it worse.
Yes, I belong to a race which doesn’t appreciate its Natural Environment; it is so involved with comfort and convenience that it really doesn’t care how our Earth is polluted by the things we use, consume and throw away. As a society, if we do not STOP and THINK and DO the right things pretty soon – much of the earth’s wonderful wildlife will be LOST forever and our children will be left with close to NOTHING.
As an individual, if I don’t create a change in my own Heart – No Laws, Organizations or Governments can enforce any change.
Some of the things I already do got reinforced – like always:
- Using my reusable shopping bags instead of the store’s plastic bags
- Re-using the same containers as much as possible
- Using ceramic containers rather than plastic containers
- Never buying a thing just because it’s on sale (if I will seldom use it)
- Buying the quantity I need rather than falling for Buy 1 Get 1 Free
- Using cloth napkins rather than paper napkins
- Avoiding plastic as much as possible – plates, spoons, fork, knives
I look forward for more ideas from you. Would you comment below?
We share so many wonderful things; let us share some of our wisdom to become a better society, a Mindful race. Let history not look back at us as Unscrupulous and Filthy Self-centered Monsters who Destroyed this Wonderful Mother Earth!!!
I send out my Love to ALL……..
