My family is in the process of finding a retirement home for my Dad who lives in India. This is NOT very normal. Any Indian with the slightest sentiments will cringe at this statement. But neither my Dad nor I are very sentimental. We are more practical and do things that work. So most of the things I have done might seem out of norm for a standard Indian women.
Having said that I brought up the topic of retirement home and wanted to know how he felt about it. As expected he was very open and said you kids want me to be very comfortable and happy, so any decisions you make I am ok with it. Was a great relief for all of us 🙂
He is at the point where he finds his inner peace in prayers and contemplation. He has his Guru and pretty much very content with His teachings. During the conversation on death and birth, he made a very interesting remark that caught my attention. He said “I am 84 yrs, I am praying I may be released from this body which is old and of no use to anyone into a new form”. That statement shocked me. Not because he was talking about death, but about reincarnation.
I was puzzled at the beginning, so I started questioning why he wants to be reborn. Now here is the interesting thing one has to remember, I am in a spiritual path and I have a Guru and His teaching is the Highest Goal for a human being is to become divine, meaning raise about the manhood and become like Divine and merge with the Divine. My Heart truly resonates with that and there is a deep inner knowing that is my Goal.
Now I looked at my Dad, His Guru’s teachings are more to live a Dharma life and avoid accumulating any bad karma. And His Guru also has stated He will be reborn to guide the Human Beings over and over. This is also the belief of the Buddhist tradition, the Lama is born again and again to guide and help the Human Beings.
To me this is astounding, how the Goals the Master’s we choose become our Goals. I am not making any judgement about the Teachers or their Teachings or their belief. But to be really BE AWARE how we set our Goals based on the teachings, who we follow.
As much as the ancient Eastern scriptures talk about the importance of learning and understand the scriptures and having a Master for your spiritual progress, they also insist one has to transcend and grow. One has to utilize the teachings and experiences to derive self-knowledge and find the TRUTH for themselves – Self-Realization and that is TRUE FREEDOM !!!

I am a student of Life, I am still learning and experiencing. I love these kind of discussions and diving deep to really understand why we are doing, what we are doing and where is it going to take us. WOW what an adventure …..
What is your belief and thoughts on spiritual Goal. I would like to hear from you.
